Case Study: El Dorado Energy

High ambient temperatures were the main factor in designing an ACC solution for El Dorado Energy, located in Boulder City, Nevada. This plant has a 160 MW steam turbine (axial exhaust). It was placed into operation in 1999.

The ACC we designed is comprised of 30 cells in a 5x6 configuration and met or exceeded the following criteria:

  • high ambient temperature design (108º F.)
  • modular construction with enhanced structural design to meet maximum grade level construction activities.
  • wind mitigation measures were installed in 2001 to improve performance during periods of high winds, which are a regular occurrence in this desert valley location.
  • 14 ppb oxygen content level (condensate sparger required.)
