Case Study: Jasper County

This 875 MW combined cycle plant is located in Hardeeville, South Carolina. The plant was placed into commercial operation in 2004.

As the owner of this plant has historically had fouling problems with film fills, GEA's NF-20 modular splash fill was provided in a non-fouling, yet high efficiency design.

In addition to the main, 11-cell fiberglass cooling tower, GEA constructed a 3-cell cooling tower for use with the turbine inlet air chilling system. Both towers featured similar designs and utilized GEA's NF-20 modular splash fill.

This 11-cell Cooling Tower meets or exceeds the following requirements:

  • Design Duty:
    • 228,000 gpm
    • 112.8ºF hot water
    • 92.0ºF cold water
    • 81.0ºF inlet wet bulb
  • Thermal Performance - The tower was tested at over 100% by a CTI licensed test agency.
  • Utilizes NF-20 modular splash fill to prevent fouling from the river water.
