Case Study: Metro Area Total Energy Plant (MATEP) (2003)This cooling tower was built to service a new chiller unit for the Metro Area Total Energy Plant (MATEP), which provides heating and cooling to all of the hospitals in the downtown Boston, Massachusetts area. The fiberglass cooling tower had to be designed to meet the thermal duty, low noise requirements, aesthetics as required by local ordinances, and to be constructible on an elevated basin located five stories above the crowded city streets of Boston. During construction GEA was provided only enough laydown area for the materials to be used that day. All shipments had to be hoisted with the buildings single construction crane and to avoid traffic, had be delivered during the early morning hours.
